International Women Day Celebrated Enthusiastically
Different women rights organizations, federations, alliances, networks, and media took part, with slogans as "Lets End Violence against Women: Lets Maintain Zero Tolerance" and "Connecting girls; Inspiring Future".
With the initiative of National Women's Commission and Ministry of Women, Children and Social Welfare, 102nd International women's day was celebrated enthusiastically in Kathmandu. Different women rights organizations, federations, alliances, networks, media including Jagaran Nepal took part actively in different program including rally organized on 102nd International Women's Day. The day was celebrated with national and international slogans as "Lets End Violence against Women: Lets Maintain Zero Tolerance" and "Connecting girls; Inspiring Future".
Addressing the concluding ceremony of the International Women's Day Rally, Chairperson of Jagaran Nepal and General Secretary of NGO federation, Sharmila Karki welcomed all organizations, participants and Media who were actively present to celebrate international women day. Addressing the rally participants, she focused on the increasing forms of violence against women in Nepal. She told that women are severely affected from different forms of violations from home to national and international levels. "Women are not only physically and mentally tortured but are also burned alive, murdered, raped and this is the brutal situation of violence against women in Nepal," she expressed. She emphasized on the various women related issues like citizenships, proportional participation at different structures, socio-economic rights and women equity rights that should be ensured in drafting new constitution and she urged to bring women friendly constitution and believed on gender friendly constitution which will help to establish equitable and just society.
Women, Children and Social Welfare Minister, Dan Bahadur Chaudhary expressed his best wishes and thanked all women rights organizations, Media and concern stakeholders who have worked for the upliftment of women. Addressing the mass Minister Chaudhary told that the government has brought so many gender friendly policies and programs to end all forms of violence against women and made commitments for its implementation. He urged all women rights organizations, media and civil society to continue their initiatives. He expressed his commitment to end all forms of violence against women.
Chairman of National Women Council, Sheikh Chandtara thanked all participants for their active participation in international women day. She urged all best wishers, women rights organizations, CSOs, media and stakeholders for the solidarity in Nepalese women's movement. She told, "we are ready to fight against all forms of discrimination and violence we expect the support of all in the days to come".
Nepal had thematically developed a slogan 'Let's End Violence against Women; Lets Maintain Zero Tolerance' to support the international slogan 'Connecting Girls; Inspiring Future'. Like other countries, Nepal also has been celebrating 'International Women Day' with various events. Government, non-government organization, CSOs, women rights organizations, media and human rights organizations are working and advocating to end all forms of violence against women. This year too, various women rights organizations, CSOs, women police personnel and media were present with banners, pamphlets and play cards in women day's rally. The rally was started from Virkuti Mandap and ended at Basantpur Kathmandu. Jagaran Nepal took part actively in the rally and other programs organized at central level. Similarly, different events are being organized by Jagaran Nepal in its 11 project districts and N-FOWRC related 37 districts.
